MEPCO Bill History title card: Previous units, amounts and payments

The fastest way to see your MEPCO bill history is the bill itself. Each bill carries a history box with the units, bill amounts and payments of recent months.

See your history online

  1. Open your latest bill with the MEPCO bill checker, using your 14-digit reference number.
  2. Find the history box. It lists recent months with the units used, the amount billed and the payment made.
  3. Compare month by month. Look for a sudden jump in units, a missing payment or a month billed on an estimate.

What to look for in your history

Your protected status

You count as a protected consumer only if you used 200 units or less in every one of the past 6 months. One month above 200 ends it. Count the months above 200 in your history to see where you stand. The tariff page shows how much the lower protected rates save. The protected consumer guide explains how to keep or regain the status.

Your lifeline status

Lifeline rates are for single-phase connections with a sanctioned load up to 1 kW. Your highest month in the last twelve, and the current month, must be 100 units or less.

Estimated or defective-meter bills

MEPCO's FAQ explains that when a meter is declared defective, the bill is estimated from your use in the same month last year and marked "est def". The meter should be replaced. If it has not been replaced after 2 to 3 months, MEPCO asks you to contact your sub-division. See how a faulty MEPCO meter is replaced.

A sudden big bill after small ones

Meters are read once a month on the date printed on the bill. If readings were missed or too low for a few months, the catch-up month can be large, and a large month can cross a slab edge. Compare the present reading on the bill with your meter; the MEPCO meter reading guide shows how to read it. MEPCO's FAQ asks you to get a clear difference between the bill and the reading corrected, because it can lead to over-charging or under-charging on the next bill.

Frequently asked questions

How can I see my previous MEPCO bills?
Open your latest bill with the bill checker. The history box on the bill lists the units, bill amounts and payments of recent months. For a full copy of an older bill, ask at your MEPCO customer service centre.
Why is my bill higher this month?
Common reasons are more units used, crossing into a higher slab, losing protected status after a month above 200 units, and new adjustment lines. An estimated reading can also push units into the wrong month.
What does est def mean on my bill?
MEPCO's FAQ says it marks a bill estimated because the meter was found defective. The estimate is based on your use in the same month last year, and the meter should be replaced.
What if my meter was not read this month?
MEPCO's FAQ says meters are read once a month on the date shown on the bill. If yours was not read, contact your sub-divisional office.
