MEPCO Peak Hours

Peak hours depend on the month. See the table below.
MEPCO peak hours are four hours every evening. The window moves with the season: it starts earliest in winter and latest in summer. Every other hour of the day is off-peak.

The terms say these timings are to be adjusted if daylight saving time is brought in. Pakistan does not use daylight saving time at present.
Who pays peak rates?
Peak and off-peak rates apply only to time-of-use (ToU) meters. For homes, NEPRA's tariff terms say all consumers with sanctioned load of 5 kW and above get a ToU meter and are billed on the ToU tariff. Commercial, industrial and farm connections on ToU meters also have peak rates, listed in the MEPCO commercial and industrial tariff.
A normal home meter with sanctioned load under 5 kW is billed on one rate per unit at every hour, so the time of day does not change its bill.

Every peak unit costs Rs 12.32 more than an off-peak unit, before adjustments and tax. Moving 100 units a month from peak to off-peak saves about Rs 1,232 before tax.
Ways to use less during peak hours
- Run the washing machine, water pump, iron and water heater before the evening window starts.
- Pre-cool rooms before peak hours start in summer, then raise the thermostat during the window.
- Charge batteries, UPS units and phones outside the window.
- Check your peak and off-peak units on each bill to see what shifting saved.
